In Living Color was one of my favorite shows growing up!

I commend the mission of this publication, but as I was reading through the stories, I began to feel as though the writers' base isn’t as diverse as I’d hope it would be (yet? Let’s put that positivity into the universe).

It’s also hard to feel spaces are safe or authentic if there isn’t any diversity among founding members (at least none I could see).

Personally, when I see this, it appears more like performative advocacy perpetuating barrier to entry / unspoken demand to adhere to a white-washed or “safe” style. The acceptance of a few token folks creates a false narrative that there aren’t that many of us who are talented by (be it conscious or unconscious) biased standards. So I wonder, in efforts such as this, “How does this help?”

I like the idea of this publication but wonder if there should be someone else central to its curation with a diverse team and allyship to propel the mission.

Wishing all the best for what I’m sure is incredibly well-intended.
